Welcome to the ‘introduction’ of the future online home of MOHLA, a portal that will follow the progress of one of the most exciting endeavors of our time.
We are at a critical nexus where advancing technology and the changing needs of the social fabric are so serious that humanity has to reinvent itself with a focus on our shared goodness. As New York City has the Statue of Liberty, Los Angeles needs an iconic statement to the millions of visitors to the region. We have the golden opportunity to build a unique museum, a new multidimensional platform that brings forth the wisdom of the ages - a museum that you will not see anywhere else.
This magnificent destination, The Museum of Humanity, will welcome countries from all over the world to exhibit their culture and their gifts to humanity like an evolving world’s fair. Our goal is to create this museum as a source of pride for the world to see… a new and thrilling educational adventure into our own humanity that will take its place on the Los Angeles world stage.
The Museum of Humanity is a multi-disciplinary engagement platform that celebrates the greatest human endeavors across time. Its programs blend art, culture, science, history, and philosophy to inspire generations around the world and to foster a global conversation, drawing wisdom from the past and excitement for the future. MOHLA creates transforming experiences by combining traditional museum practices with immersive technologies, and presenting dynamic programs that include pop up exhibitions, talks, documentaries, symposia, and community events. By doing so, the museum seeks to introduce diverse audiences to the most inspiring human achievements from around the world, building a vision for a future filled with hope and promise.
The physical journey will begin in the museum's grand hall entry where visitors can observe the Planet Index (PI) on 3 large video walls. The PI will be MOHLA’s proprietary algorithm that will rank top events across the globe in real time, including threats to the planet as well as the points of peace.
MOHLA's core exhibitions will present the arts, culture, science, philosophy, architecture, healing arts, and technology through traditional and latest multi-media platforms for a new educational experience.
The Research and Learning Center will educate and advocate for environmentally-balanced, life-sustaining initiatives that strive to improve the human condition. It will celebrate significant breakthroughs in research on environmental balance and restoration, habitat stability, food supply, health, water, and air quality.
The International Cultural Center will be our World's Fair celebrating human advancement and showcasing contributions of other cultures throughout the centuries. The Center's core initiative "Gifts of Nations" will include international collaboration with other organizations globally to explore what makes them proud of their culture.
The Documentary Center will acquire and produce series of documentaries capturing the matrix of humanity throughout history that can be of educational value today. In addition, the core work of the Center will be to disseminate the exhibitions and programs of the museum, as well as the initiatives of the International Cultural Center and the Research and Learning Center.
MOHLA's international outreach and multi-cultural collaboration will include the creation of an evolving garden that displays sculptures and installations portraying other cultures' interpretation of humanity.
The Museum of Humanity was founded by Karen & Byron Barnes as the Monument to Humanity Research & Learning Center. In 2008 the company received an advanced ruling that classified the organization as a public charity, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit California Corporation. In 2013 a ‘DBA’ the Museum of Humanity Los Angeles and MOHLA was announced. In 2015 The Monument to Humanity received a major private gift which allows the next level of development to proceed.
